Hi, I have been refered to Microsoft by Canon, as I have a Canon MP610 that I can use as a printer but no scans.

I understand that you are having an issue with your Canon PIXMA MP610 regarding scanning. To be able to assist you with this matter, I would like to give you the following information and instructions.

My first recommendation is to do a clean install. Kindly follow the steps below.

1. Disconnect your printer from your computer.

2. Uninstall all the printer software and drivers of from your computer then delete it from the list of your available printer. (for Windows its under control panel then printer and faxes)

3. Restart your computer.

4. Disable Windows firewall/anti-virus security.

5. Re-install the printer software and drivers. Download your printer driver first.

The drivers and software are available for download from the following link, Once there please locate the small square box on the page that you have opened, tick it and click on download.

We recommend you to save it on your desktop first, once the driver is downloaded, select ‘run’ to install it.

Do not connect the USB cable until prompted to do so.

6. Download the rest of the relevant software (Example: Scanner Driver, MP Navigator, Easy Photo Print etc.) and follow the same process.

In Windows PC, to be able to scan you will need to install MP Navigator EX.

My reply to Canon was as follows:'I did everything as instructed, old programs and drivers uninstalled, printer disconnected from pc, with antivirus and firewall disconnected, computer restarted, installed 'mpnx_1_0-win-1_07-ea23_2', which it does and then 'mp610swin101ea24', where upon I get the following message ' A newer version of MP Drivers is already installed. The installation will be cancelled'. I went through this exercise twice. I then restart pc, connect printer, go to devices and printers, add a new printer, print a test page and it all seems to work. I then go to the printer, select scan document, save to pc and eventually get a message that states, 'Place document on platen glass and press ♦ (start), where upon the scanner does not respond at all.
