Mac Address Serial Number

Question: Q: can i get MAC address from serial number. We are using 802.1x authentication on our cisco's and in order to distribute our iPads so that end user can just open it and put in their AD credentials and gain immediate access. The serial number is the MAC address with the trailing -E added in your case. You can see the MAC addresses from the About My Sonos System under Settings (with the trailing -X) on the controller or in your router's DHCP section without the additional letter/number too. If you still have the original packaging for your Mac Pro, you can find the serial number on a barcode label on the box. The packaging also lists the Apple part number—for example, ME253xx/A. Match that number to one in the list below to find your Mac Pro model. A Media Access Control address (MAC address) is a unique identifier assigned to network interfaces for communication on the physical network segment. The serial number is on the back panel of the appliance. If you do not have easy access to the back panel, you can get the appliance’s serial number by logging on to the LOM port.

I have done a pretty fairly extensive search on the internet and can't seem to find the answer I want….Was hoping for a suggestion from one of you…

We are using 802.1x authentication on our cisco's and in order to distribute our iPads so that end user can just open it and put in their AD credentials and gain immediate access. In order for authentication to take place, we need to provide a .csv or similar type file to our Network engineers that they can pre-load into the ISE device containing the MAC addresses of all district owned equipment. For all the PC's already connected, we just used our Altiris product and pulled all that info easily enough.

For all the iPads in CARTs, I just used Apple Configurator to export a csv file for all of those…

Now we are getting 130 iPads in for principles etc… and many more to come (I'm sure) and I do not want to turn every one of these on just to write down a MAC address. I see that Apple places Serial number on the devices and was wondering if there was any location where I could obtain the MAC addresses associated with those serial numbers so that we could import them into the ISE system. Or do you have any other suggestions? We were not planning on plugging them in to configurator at all if possible, as this would add another step to process. We are planning to use a cloud based MDM product from LightSpeed. Once the devices have network connectivity, we can manage them completely from this product.

I would welcome any answer as to the easiest way to obtain these MAC id's or any concerns or thoughts you might have about the process we are using

Thanks, in advance….

Locate your serial number, model identifier, and part number

You can find the serial number and other identifiers for your Mac Pro in macOS, on the computer's surface, and on its packaging.

In the About This Mac window

With most versions of macOS, you can find your computer's serial number and model information in the About This Mac window.

Choose Apple menu () > About This Mac. The window that appears lists your computer's model name—for example, Mac Pro (Late 2013)—and serial number. You can then use your serial number to check your service and support options or to find tech specs for your model.

You can also use your computer's model identifier to get more information. In the About This Mac window, click System Report. In the System Information window that opens, find Model Identifier in the Hardware Overview section. Then use the identifier to locate your Mac Pro below.

On the surface of your Mac Pro

Shut down your Mac Pro and unplug any connected cables so you can safely move it.

On Mac Pro (Late 2013), the serial number is on the computer's bottom surface. On earlier Mac Pro models, the serial number is on the computer's back panel, below the video ports.

Mac Serial Number Information

On the original product packaging or receipt

If you still have the original packaging for your Mac Pro, you can find the serial number on a barcode label on the box.

The packaging also lists the Apple part number—for example, ME253xx/A. Match that number to one in the list below to find your Mac Pro model.
In Apple part numbers, the 'xx' before the slash are variables that differ by country or region.
