Aug 29, 2019 Myself and several others on the Kodi forum have noticed that since Windows 10 not all of the buttons on MCE Remote (model number 1039) are registering in. Get that MCE remote out of the drawer, because it’s still useful. If you’ve already found an alternative to Windows Media Center, a free piece of software called Advanced MCE Remote Mapper Tool lets you remap the buttons on your remote to keys or keyboard shortcuts. This means you can use the remote to control any media center software,.
This app is only available on the App Store for iOS devices.
Description
MCE Remote
WiFi remote control for Windows Media center
Control your Windows Media Center with your iPhone, iPod or iPad!
- SETUP INSTRUCTIONS -
1. Download the MCE Remote Server application from http://gregoryfoster.com/products/mceremote.html
The 'Server Lite' version does not require an installation, you may just run the EXE from anywhere on your PC
The server app is required to run on your Windows media center PC. It is the application that listens to commands send from your Apple device then sends keep commands to Media Center.
What’s New
* Fixed crash on devices with IOS versions < 8
* Added ability to control more than one PC by swiping left or right on the screen
Good idea, but problematic
I won't go into a lot of detail because I didn't use this app very long. The server software, which runs in the background on the PC, caused high CPU usage, which in turn caused the case fan to run fast and very loudly, which is not desirable on a HTPC.
I will say that the app itself seems well designed, with a spare look and a few easy to use screens. Connectivity to the server software was a little spotty and had to be relinked occasionally.
All in all, I'm not sure how well suited I-devices are as remotes. I think I'll just stick to my Logitech Harmony 650.
Windows 10 Media Remote
Great app
This app works very well. I have this installed on three Media Center systems, two are Windows7 and the third is a Windows 8. The server install was smooth and painless. I have the app on my iPhone and my wife's iPad all without issue.
I spoke with the developer (Greg) to add some features, he was able to accommodate my request quickly and worked very close with me until I was fully satisfied.
This is a top notch app and a developer that understood my request and was able to implement quickly.
Thank you Greg. Thank you Greg, Thank you Greg!!!!!!!
Amazing!!
I barely ever write reviews because very few apps are worth it. But it seems like this app is only rated around half. So I am tryin to bring it up a bit. I downloaded the server that used bonjour, entered in my computers IP address and worked seamlessly. Anyone with a 21st century computer should run it. It didn't slow down anything unlike a previous user said. Thank you so much. Plz keep this app up.
